Another new year and yet another time for reflection on the year just spent. I feel a sense of completion when I write these letters and because I didn’t do so for 2016, I think I did myself a disservice, especially given how traumatically the year ended. What I take forward from that omission is the knowledge that even perceived setbacks deserve the opportunity to be put to rest. I will try to not let that happen again.
So, to you, 2017, ahhhhhhh, I have such mixed feelings about how you marked my 45th year on the planet. Sure, there is the obvious negative events I could point out, like who currently resides in the White House and all the upheaval the country has experienced in so short a time. Police brutality and the threat to fresh water at Standing Rock. The number of mass shootings that seems to be on the rise so much so that we as a country are becoming numb to them, and yet no real talk about gun control.
Yes, it’s important to remember the sadness and hurt and the anger, but I really believe that in order to make all this unrest mean something, we have to find the lessons that need to be learned and not dwell on negative alone. How do we move forward? And more importantly, how to I, as a Witch and as a human being, help that progress to happen in a positive and helpful way?
What is my part in all this?
I always try to live my life by example. Goddess knows, I’m not perfect and I never will be, and the least I can do is give my voice of experience to the truth of what I do and why. I believe in the rights that animals don’t deserve to have products tested on them, so I do what I can to make sure that I don’t use anything made by companies who do. I think that agricultural livestock is greatly contributing to the destruction of the planet, so I’ve made the choice to become a vegetarian. Humans are also grossly adding to the destruction of the planet because of all our waste that sits in landfills, so I’ve decided to recycle and reduce all that I can.
2017, you have introduced me to other ways that I can alter my life to be better for the planet and I’m doing what I can to make those ideas a reality. It’s not something that can happen overnight, but I’m willing to make the sacrifices to honor the planet and all she gives us. I thank you for that continued opportunity.
I feel a sense of thankfulness for the accomplishments I made in our time together. My studies with the Temple of Witchcraft means a great deal to me, and I performed a bulk of Witchcraft 5 with you, a course that I will soon finish, thus putting to rest my main course of education there. What a precious gift this is to me!
Circle of Hands, a pagan community organization that Cathy and I started, hosted its first open public Sabbat ritual at Lammas. It was a complete highlight for me and we’re hoping to have more open rituals in 2018.
Our coven nearly doubled in size at Imbolc! We added to our numbers and celebrated degree achievements by some of our sisters. I love these women more than I can express in words and it means so much to me to have this circle of support in my life. I honor you all!!!!
I saw beautiful growth on my blog and on my YouTube channel and it shows in the wonderful comments and requests that I receive. I hope to continue learning and growing with those I’m meeting and that we all do so together. Many blessings to them!!
All in all, you have been so may things packed into what sometimes seems like such a short amount of time. I know that these past 12 months are ones that I will hold dear in my thoughts as I move forward in 2018. Thank you for your time and for your lessons.
